Threats to Polar Lands
Our Polar lands are under great threat from many environmental changes, because of human impact. From pollution, overfishing, tourism, hunting, oil exploration, research and dumping waste, but mostly through climate change. Climate change is very important to our world. The effect of climate change and global warming is being felt by habitats and wild life in our polar lands. Climate change is having major effects on the Arctic, as average temperatures have increased by 5 degrees Celsius. There is a decrease in sea ice, which causes loss of habitats and interrupts food chains.
The impacts are first felt by polar bears, as they rely on sea ice to hunt and store their energy for hibernation. Unhealthy bears can lead to death or even extinction.
In Antarctica, the threats are global warming, ocean acidification and loss of sea ice, which are all linked to the increase in carbon dioxide. Human impacts include, hunting species for money, killing and disturbing species and pollution. These are all affecting the food chain.
